Description:

Mader’s Restaurant in Milwaukee opened in 1902 as a small tavern started by Bavarian immigrant Charles Mader and soon grew into a celebrated destination for traditional German food. During Prohibition the restaurant survived by serving hearty dishes such as wiener schnitzel, sauerbraten, potato pancakes, and its famous slow roasted pork shank. After pouring Milwaukee’s first legal beer in 1933, Mader’s continued to expand and refine its Old World atmosphere. Today it remains a landmark known for its classic German specialties and long standing family tradition.
