Lottie Cooper Shipwreck

Saves: 2
Check-ins: 1
On the evening of April 8, 1894, the wooden schooner Lottie Cooper, carrying elm wood from Michigan to Sheboygan, encountered a fierce northwest gale. Unable to signal a tug for help, the crew dropped anchor until morning. By then, the ship's condition had worsened, leading to its capsizing and sinking. The Life Savers, aided by the tug Sheboygan, successfully rescued five of the crew members, but one man drowned while trying to reach the shore on a makeshift raft of wood planks.
