Description:
Hearthstone Historic House Museum in Appleton, Wisconsin is a stunning Queen Anne–style Victorian residence built in 1882 and designed by architect William Waters. It holds international significance as the first private home in the world to be illuminated by electricity using a hydroelectric Edison system, with original light fixtures, switches, and wiring still intact. Inside, visitors encounter beautifully preserved details such as carved native wood interiors, stained and etched glass, parquet floors, and nine ornate fireplaces. Guided tours bring to life Hearthstone’s story of early electrification, local industry, and Gilded Age innovation through immersive history and rotating exhibits.
