The memorial covers an area of approximately 88 acres and was dedicated on June 6, 2001 by President George W. Bush. The site features a variety of elements that pay homage to the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought in the D-Day invasion, including a statue of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the supreme commander of the Allied forces in Europe, and a replica of the famous "Overlord" embroidery that depicts the events leading up to and following the invasion.
