Established in 1886, the historic Hammond Mercantile building stands proudly as an adobe structure with a rich history. Over the span of 138 years, it's served as home to various businesses, including a post office, Maytag, UPS, several medical offices, a grain mill, and a motor repair shop. Among its notable tenants was The Poplar Place, a beloved establishment renowned for its pizza, draft beer, and welcoming atmosphere. Throughout its peak in the 1970s and 1990s, it played host to local entertainment icons like ZZ Top, adding to its legacy as a hub of community and entertainment. Adding to the history of this old building, the Trailhead Public House and Eatery was established in 2020.
