Description:

Opened in 1859 beside the Alamo, the Menger Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi and has welcomed everyone from presidents to cattle barons throughout its storied history. Theodore Roosevelt famously recruited many of his Rough Riders at the historic Menger Bar, while the hotel's elegant Victorian architecture has made it one of San Antonio's most treasured landmarks. Beyond its rich history, the Menger is also renowned as one of Texas' most haunted hotels, with generations of guests and staff reporting ghostly encounters involving former chambermaid Sallie White, Captain Richard King, and other lingering spirits said to still roam its historic halls.
