Window Trail is a short, roundtrip, 1/4-mile trail with just ten feet of elevation gain - so an easy hike for most. Three hikes begin from this single Window Trail trailhead. The Window Trail is the easiest of the three, taking you a short distance from the parking area to a gap in the ridge. You can look out over rugged terrain and down into an orange canyon of eroded sediments like sandstone. The Door Trail and the Notch Trail hike provide longer hikes to explore the Badlands. The window gap in the wall has a barrier as a preventive measure to protect anyone or anything from falling 100' below, but you still have a great view. North of "The Window" is another window with no barrier if heights don't concern you. To get to the trailhead, take Badlands Loop Road (Route 240) two miles east of the Ben Reifel Visitor Center to a large turnout on the east side of the road for Door, Window, and Notch Trails. Window Trail begins from the south end of the lot just above Notch Trail and heads east.
