Harney Peak Lookout Tower

Formerly Harney Peak, the name was changed in 2016 to honor Black Elk, the noted Lakota Sioux medicine man. Black Elk Peak is the highest natural point in South Dakota which lies 3.7 miles from Mount Rushmore. At over 7,000 feet the peak is described by the Board on Geographical Names as the highest summit in the United States east of the Rocky Mountains.
