Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel

An unfinished mountain railroad tunnel is now a historical landmark. Originally started for the Blue Ridge Railroad it is now a park. It was started right before the Civil War but naturally construction was abandoned when men, money, and resources were needed to power the war effort. Well preserved and never used it is a now a historical look back into the engineering of the pre-Civil War period. (Photo by Shawn S)
