Bake Oven Knob is on the Appalachian Trail where you'll encounter a rock-strewn landscape and a steep climb. Not much to see, but after a half-hour, the trial becomes easier. You'll notice and pass by a small stream, after which you'll come upon the Bake Oven Knob shelter. Take a break and stop to sign the guest book to let everyone know you've been there! Bake Oven Knob, nicknamed "The Knob," is the name of a high part of Blue Mountain. The views at the top of the knob are worth the steep, rocky trip. From the Bake Oven parking area near the top of the mountain point it's approximately a 15-25 minute climb over large rocks to reach the fantastic view awaiting you at the top. You'll see other mountains, trees, and farmland for as far as the eye can see. The nearly 11-mile, five-hour hike to the knob is fantastic! Park at the trailhead off 309 North and hike up the Appalachian through Knife's Edge, P's Peak, and Bear Rocks. The hike is not a hike for the faint-hearted. There will be plenty of climbing over boulders and up inclines! The trail does even out before you arrive at the Bake Oven Knob parking lot. But take note that more boulder climbing awaits you before making it up to the "Knob." Still, this is one incredibly rewarding hike. (Submitted by Michael Jacobs)
