Description:
Oaks Park Roller Skating Rink in Portland, Oregon opened in the early 1900s (commonly cited as 1905–1906) as part of Oaks Amusement Park, making it the oldest continuously operating roller rink in the United States. The rink has weathered major floods, including the devastating Vanport flood of 1948, after which its floor was rebuilt on airtight barrels so it could float above rising waters. A unique feature is its historic 1926 Wurlitzer pipe organ, relocated from Portland’s Broadway Theater in 1955, and still played during select skating sessions today.
