Description:
Bonneville Dam, located near Cascade Locks, Oregon, was constructed between 1933 and 1937 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal to provide jobs during the Great Depression. Built on the Columbia River, the dam was designed for hydroelectric power generation, navigation improvement, and flood control. It was the first federal lock and dam on the Columbia and remains a key part of the region's infrastructure and power grid.
