Born in 1800, John Warwick Thomas owned 384 acres by the age of 22. Three decades later in 1852 he would be known as the founder of Thomasville. In 2003 his likeness would be depicted in bronze. The statue was created by wildlife artist Dick Idol; this was his first work depicting a human form. It's a few steps away from the Big Chair, a large-scale replica of a Thomasville Furniture design.
