Description:
The Historic Earle Theatre in Mount Airy, North Carolina was built in 1938 by Earl Q. Benbow and Percy A. Boone as a classic Art Deco movie house and quickly became a central entertainment venue in the community. After decades showing films and hosting live events, it fell into disrepair and was donated to the Surry Arts Council in 1990, which restored it and reopened it for movies, music performances, and community gatherings. Today it also houses the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall and hosts one of the nation’s longest-running live radio shows, preserving the region’s musical traditions.
