Come see the small farmhouse that stood between Confederate General Johnston's headquarters in Greensboro and Union General Sherman's headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina, back in April 1865. This is where the two officers met at Bennett Place to sign surrender papers for the southern armies in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. Today, you can explore the reconstructed farmhouse, kitchen, and smokehouse of James Bennett, a regular Southern farmer during the Civil War. It's a glimpse into the everyday life of a farmer from that time.
