Description:

Ear Inn operates inside the historic James Brown House, a Federal style building from about 1817 that was originally owned by James Brown, an African American Revolutionary War veteran who served under George Washington. Over the years it shifted from a tobacco shop to a sailors tavern, later survived Prohibition as a speakeasy, and eventually became the beloved bar and restaurant it is today. The current name appeared in the late 1970s when new owners altered an old “BAR” sign to read “EAR” as a clever workaround to signage restrictions. Visitors now enjoy classic comfort foods such as the cheeseburger, chicken pot pie, and spicy garlic shrimp.
