Description:

One of the most famous naval commanders during the American Revolution, John Paul Jones was both applauded and vilified. He lived in this house briefly from 1781 to 1782 while it was a boarding house. It has become a National Historic Landmark because it is the only surviving structure that can be associated with the captain. After his residence here he returned to Europe and served on a Russian warship. Following more career setbacks in Europe he finally died in Paris at the age of 45.
