Constructed in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Lost City Museum, initially named the Boulder Dam Park Museum, was established. The museum, curated by the National Park Service, was designed to showcase artifacts unearthed from nearby prehistoric archaeological sites. Many of these sites were submerged due to the damming of the Colorado River to create Lake Mead.
