Description:
The Rose Theater in Omaha, Nebraska, first opened in 1927 as the Riviera Theatre, designed by architect John Eberson in a Moorish and Classical style with a night-sky ceiling that created the feeling of being outdoors. It was renamed the Paramount Theatre during the Great Depression and later became the Astro Theatre in the 1960s, operating as a movie house until it closed around 1980. Facing demolition, it was saved in 1981 by philanthropist Rose Blumkin, who gifted it for restoration, and after renovations in the early 1990s, it reopened as the Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center, now home to the Omaha Theater Company.
