This National Historic Landmark marks the area where a November gale in 1905 caused shipwrecks which prompted construction of the Split Rock Lighthouse. The U.S. Lighthouse Service completed Split Rock in 1910 which has become one of Minnesota's best known landmarks. Renovation has brought the lighthouse back to its 1920 standards and offers a brief glimpse of lighthouse life in a remote setting.
