Ellingsen Island

A gorgeous spectacle on Lake Superior, Ellingsen Island is accessible by foot by walking across the shallow waters. You can also opt to bring a kayak but you should definitely think about bringing some galoshes or watershoes to prevent falling on the slippery rocks. Of course, you're always free to just view the rocky island from pebble beach! The island is closed from March 1 to August 1 to help preserve the natural wildlife that lives in these parts. To get to the island you can park in the lot at Little Two Harbors/Split Rock which is open every day from 8 AM to 10 PM.
