This colonial-era abode in Salem, MA was the eponymous living quarters of Nathaniel Hawthorne's creepy, gothic 1850s novel. It was the home of Captain John Turner and his family for three generations, although now it serves as a museum and historic landmark. Adjacent to the house is Nathaniel Hawthorne's birthplace. Although it is the actual home that Hawthorne was born in, the structure was moved from its original location.
