Description:

This 40-foot stone tower may not be as elegant or graceful as the DC obelisk but it precedes it by almost 60 years. It was the first monument built to honor George Washington and the the state park rigorously maintains the structure after its restoration in 1882. You can enter and climb the stone steps to the top, although the stair case is narrow and slighly treacherous for those with two left feet.
