Sandy Point Lighthouse

Built on a caisson foundation, this brick lighthouse was first lit in 1883. Unfortunately, the lighthouse in recent years was the target of vandalism; the light was smashed in 1979. The building sadly was in a state of deterioration for many years although it is now in the hands of a private owner. The Coast Guard still maintains the light and hopefully the lighthouse will remain a historical landmark for years to come.
