Description:
The Colonial Theatre in Belfast, Maine first opened in April 1912, the same day the Titanic set sail, as a grand stage and movie house serving the coastal community. After the original building was destroyed by fire in 1923, it was rebuilt the next year and over decades evolved into a beloved three-screen cinema and arts venue with a distinctive marquee topped by its iconic elephant figure. Today the Colonial still anchors downtown Belfast’s cultural life, offering films, live performances, and community events as a historic centerpiece of the city.
