This planet-sized orb of twine was started in 1953. Four years later, it stood 8 feet high and weighed 5,000 lbs. Now, it is a beloved Cawker City artifact where it is a recurring motif in countless places around the city. Every August a Twine-a-thon is held which is a ceremonial festival when people are invited to add to the sphere.
