Description:
The Estherville Meteorite Center in Estherville, Iowa, preserves a piece of the historic 455‑lb meteor that crashed into Emmet County on May 10, 1879—the largest witnessed meteor fall in North America. Located in downtown Estherville (814 Central Avenue), the center allows visitors to view the meteorite through a window or by appointment inside the American Family Insurance office. Just steps away, a striking sculpture by Tom Gibbs depicts the meteor breaking into three fragments as witnessed by locals—a fitting tribute to this one-of-a-kind astronomical event.
