The museum was established in 1905, but it moved into its current home which was once the Cedar Rapids Public Library in 1985. Although much of the content is focused on prominent artists based in Iowa, the 63,000-square-foot museum also contains the world's largest collections of works from Grant Wood, Mauricio Lasansky, Bertha Jacques, and Marvin Cone.
