Description:
The Hippie Memorial in Arcola, Illinois is a one-of-a-kind folk art monument created by local artist Bob Moomaw as a tribute to the ideals and culture of the 1960s hippie movement. Stretching about 62 feet long, the colorful metal wall reflects Moomaw’s personal beliefs, experiences, and commentary on the era in which he lived. Built beginning in 1992 and later dedicated after his death, it remains a quirky roadside attraction and a lasting symbol of free expression in an unexpected small-town setting.
