Key West City Hall Tiger

Key West City Hall has a rich history dating back to its construction in the 1930s as a high school. Over the years, it transitioned from being an elementary school named Glynn Archer Elementary, complete with a tiger mascot created by artist and teacher George Carey. The tiger, originally associated with Frederick Douglass High School during the era of segregation, became a cherished local landmark in front of Glynn Archer Elementary. Despite Glynn Archer Elementary's closure in 2013 and the building's transformation into City Hall, debates ensued about the fate of the iconic tiger with discussions centering on whether it should stay with the historic building or relocate to a new elementary school.
