Description:

The Jefferson County Courthouse in Monticello was built in 1909 to replace an earlier 1841 wooden courthouse, reflecting the county’s growth and need for a more modern civic building. Designed by architect Edward Columbus Hosford in the Classical Revival style, the structure was modeled after Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate, tying it symbolically to the county’s namesake. Today, it stands at the center of town within the Monticello Historic District and remains a key historic landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
