Description:
The Red Lion Tavern in Silver Lake first opened in 1959 as an “Olde English” pub under founders Ted Mandekic and Edward Pagliano, then was rebranded in 1963 into its now‐famous German tavern format. After a temporary closure around 1979, it was revived in 1981 under German ownership and has since grown into a multilevel beer garden and restaurant cherished for hearty German fare, steins of beer, kitschy décor, and a beloved roof patio. Today it’s known as a longtime Los Angeles institution celebrating German culture through its menu, rotating draft beers, and festive ambiance.
