Description:

The Robin Williams Rainbow Tunnel, located on Highway 101 near Sausalito, California, was originally opened in 1937 as the Waldo Tunnel and expanded in 1954. In 1970, colorful rainbow arches were painted on its south-facing entrances to bring cheer to commuters, a move that was initially unofficial but quickly embraced by the public. After Robin Williams—an iconic comedian and longtime Marin County resident—passed away in 2014, a successful petition led to the tunnel being renamed in his honor in 2015. Today, it stands as a vibrant and beloved tribute to his legacy of joy and humor.
