Apple Boulders

Apples and Americana seem to go hand in hand. There’s mom’s apple pie, beloved serial trespasser Johnny Appleseed and, of course, the Apple Boulders of Perris, CA. This classic example of roadside art was created in 1983 by a local artist Neil Larson who, like so many artists before him, had a vision—a vision of something to munch on. People around here seem to like these massive boulders painted to look like apple slices, because others have taken it upon themselves to refresh the paint, making this a truly communal piece of folk art.

I pass by these rocks almost daily and they have recently got repainted. They look extra bright so decided to stop.

You will pull off onto a small dirt road, if you are coming up with it on your left and miss it, no worries the next turn is the frog rock. This is also on a small dirt road, easy to miss.
