Description:

Kartchner Caverns State Park in Benson, Arizona, is home to an extraordinary “living” limestone cave system filled with pristine stalactites, stalagmites, soda-straws and a 58-foot column known as Kubla Khan. The cave was discovered in 1974 by two cavers who kept it secret for years in order to protect its fragile ecosystem, and today guided tours enter the chamber through air-locks and misting systems to preserve its delicate formations. Above ground the park offers desert hiking among the foothills of the Whetstone Mountains, camping with dark-sky stargazing, and rich biodiversity making it a standout destination in southern Arizona.
