One of a pair of poles produced in 1951 to accurately designate the apex of the Earth, this particular pole embarked on an extensive journey across the United States. Its counterpart was released from the tail hatch of an Alaska Airlines DC-4 over the geographic North Pole on the Arctic night of December 11. Following its rediscovery in 1972 within an old junkyard, this pole has been prominently exhibited at its present site since the park's dedication on July 4th, 1976, organized by the North Pole Jaycees.
